Pounding out 21 hits, the Angels routed the A's, 8-1, handing Matt Keough his 18th straight loss over two seasons. Keough tied the major league record for most defeats at the start of a season (14) and moved within one of the loop all-time record for consecutive losses.

The Angels plated three runs in the third inning on a triple by Rick Miller, bunt single by Bert Campaneris and two-run homer by Don Baylor. Back-to-back homers by Joe Rudi and Bobby Grich highlighted a five-run outburst in the eighth frame. [The Sporting News]
