Mike Ivie celebrated his 27th birthday by hitting two homers as the Giants beat the Padres, 10-7. Ivie's circuit blows came with the bases empty in the second and eighth innings.

Winning pitcher John Curtis drove in a run with a fourth-inning single and then singled home two more tallies to key a five-run fifth inning. San Diego reliever Rollie Fingers walked four consecutive batters in the fifth and gave up five runs in one-third inning. [The Sporting News]
