Homers by Ken Reitz and George Hendrick highlighted the Cardinals' 8-4 victory over the Mets. Reitz connected for a three-run blast in the second inning following singles by Ted Simmons and Tony Scott.

The Redbirds blew the game open in the fifth frame. Garry Templeton and Jerry Mumphrey stroked singles and, after an out, a double by Simmons delivered both runners. Wayne Twitchell replaced starter Andy Hassler on the mound for the Mets and immediately yielded a two-run round-tripper to Hendrick. [The Sporting News]
