The Mets knocked out Ross Grimsley in the first inning and scored six runs to win the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 7-1, but the Expos gained a split with a 6-5 victory in the nightcap on the slugging of Larry Parrish and Andre Dawson. The Mets' outburst in the first game included a two-run double by Joel Youngblood and a two-run single by Doug Flynn. Chris Speier homered in the third for the Expos' lone run off Craig Swan.

In the second game, Parrish pounded out four hits, including two doubles and a homer, and Dawson added a two-run homer. A double by Parrish and single by Duffy Dyer in the sixth inning produced what proved to be the Expos' deciding run.
