Led by Hal McRae, who batted in five runs with a double and homer, the Royals defeated the Tigers, 11-5, for their sixth victory in seven games and 16th in 23. George Brett had three doubles and a single for the Royals, who broke a 2-2 tie by scoring six runs, five unearned, in the sixth inning.

Amos Otis drove in the tie-breaking tally with a single. After a two-out error by Tiger second baseman Lou Whitaker, Willie Wilson drove in two runs with a single and McRae added three with a homer. [The Sporting News]
