The Angels scored four runs in the ninth inning to beat the Mariners, 4-3. Don Baylor began the winning rally with a single and moved to third on a single by Willie Aikens. Larry Harlow ran for Aikens and Randy Stein replaced starter Rob Dressler on the hill for the Mariners. A single by Brian Downing scored Baylor and sent Harlow to third.

Mariner second baseman Julio Cruz then misplayed a grounder by Rick Miller, allowing Harlow to score and Downing to reach third. Miller took second as Downing held third on a fly ball by Bobby Grich. Pinch-hitter Joe Rudi drew a walk to load the bases and Rod Carew then stroked a single to plate the tying and winning runs. [The Sporting News]
