Burt Hooton tossed a two-hitter as the Dodgers whitewashed the Cardinals, 9-0. John Denny matched Hooton in shutout pitching until the seventh inning when the Dodgers scored their first run on consecutive singles by Joe Ferguson, Derrel Thomas and Steve Yeager.

After a sacrifice by Hooton and an intentional walk to Davey Lopes loaded the bases, Bill Russell stroked a two-run single. Dusty Baker clouted a solo homer in the eighth and Gary Thomasson belted a two-run round-tripper in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
