Bobby Murcer hit two homers, including a two-run shot that capped a three-run eighth inning, powering the Yankees to a 6-5 triumph over the Rangers. The winning rally began with one out when Lou Piniella stroked a pinch-double and reached third on an error by Texas right fielder Richie Zisk.

A pinch-single by Roy White plated Piniella and knocked out Sparky Lyle, who was replaced on the hill by Jim Kern. After pinch-hitter Bobby Brown struck out, Murcer followed with a long homer to right field. [The Sporting News]
