. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Getting relief help from Rich Gossage, Tommy John received credit for his 16th victory of the season as the Yankees edged the Rangers, 4-3. The Yanks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on successive doubles by Bobby Murcer, Lou Piniella and Reggie Jackson.

After a two-run single by Jim Sundberg tied the game in the top of the second, the Yankees countered with the eventual winning run in the bottom of the frame when Bucky Dent walked, went to third on a single by Willie Randolph and came home on a single by Murcer. [The Sporting News]
