Proving the exception to the theory that lefthanders can't win in Fenway Park, Ross Baumgarten allowed only five hits in 7 2/3 innings as the White Sox defeated the Red Sox, 4-1. Ed Farmer, in relief, retired the last five batters. Ralph Garr homered for the White Sox in the sixth inning and Fred Lynn provided a matching blow for the Red Sox in their half. Chet Lemon doubled and scored the tie-breaking run on an error by Butch Hobson in the seventh. Jim Morrison singled to add another tally in that same stanza. Lemon supplied an insurance marker with a single in the eighth. [The Sporting News] |
