The White Sox eked out a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox. With the score tied, 2-2, in the eighth, the White Sox loaded the bases on singles by Ralph Garr and Mike Squires and a fielder's choice on which Jorge Orta was safe. Garr then came home as Lamar Johnson grounded into an infield out.

Although driving in the winning run, Johnson was stopped on his 19-game batting streak. Fred Lynn of the Red Sox also was collared on his 20-game string. [The Sporting News]
