A seventh-inning homer by Gary Matthews snapped a 4-4 tie and enabled the Braves to edge the Phillies, 5-4. The Braves led, 4-1, until the Phillies tied the score in the sixth with a single by Mike Schmidt, double by Greg Luzinski, triple by Dave Rader and single by Manny Trillo.
