After yielding six runs and six hits in the first inning, including a grand-slam homer by Andre Thornton and solo round-tripper by Ron Hassey, Rick Langford pitched one-hit ball over the final eight frames and the A's prevailed over the Indians, 8-6. The A's, who had scored three runs in the top half of the first, came back with a two-run homer by Mike Heath in the sixth and tied the score in the seventh.

Tony Armas opened the eighth with a walk and took second on a sacrifice. Mike Edwards was safe at first when Tribe shortstop Tom Veryzer booted his grounder.
