Allowing only four singles, Rick Waits equalled his career high with his 13th victory by defeating the A's, 5-2. The Indians scored without the benefit of a hit in the first inning on a walk, a sacrifice, an infield out and a wild pitch by Mike Norris. Duane Kuiper batted in another run with a single in the second. Bobby Bonds homered in the fifth and also doubled and scored on a single by Cliff Johnson in the seventh.
