In a slugging display, Don Baylor broke the Angels' club record for most RBIs in one season and tied the mark for most in one game by driving in eight runs in a 24-2 walloping of the Blue Jays. The Angels broke their club records for most runs in a game and for most hits with 26. Baylor hit a grand slam in the first inning, knocked in a run with a double inthe third and homered with two men on base in the sixth to boost his RBI total to 118, three more than Bobby Bonds' previous club record in 1977. Two previous Angels, Leon Wagner and Lee Thomas, each batted in eight runs in separate games in 1961. Bobby Grich, Dan Ford and Bobby Clark joined in the Angels' slugging, each hitting a two-run homer. After the Angels mauled three regular pitchers, first baseman Craig Kusick took the mound for the Blue Jays and worked the last 3 2/3 innings, giving up three hits and two runs. [The Sporting News] |
