A four-run rally in the eighth inning, capped when Rob Wilfong homered with a man on base, brought the Twins a 4-1 victory over the Yankees. Jerry Koosman won his sixth straight game. Mike Marshall pitched the ninth inning and picked up his 26th save. The Yankees' run in the third was unearned. Brada Gulden singled and scored from first base when Koosman threw wildly after fielding a grounder by Willie Randolph.

The Twins had collected only four hits off Luis Tiant going into the eighth when Bombo Rivera walked and pinch-hitter Mike Cubbage tripled to tie the score. Butch Wynegar singled, driving in pinch-runner Willie Norwood, and Wilfong followed with his homer to clinch the decision. [The Sporting News]
