A combined six-hitter by Dennis Lamp and Bruce Sutter carried the Cubs to a 4-1 decision over the Giants. The Cubs went ahead in the first inning on a two-out infield hit by Bill Buckner, a wild pitch and a single by Steve Ontiveros.

After singles by Scot Thompson and Buckner, Larry Biittner hit a sacrifice fly in the third. The Cubs picked up two more markers in the eighth on a single by Ontiveros, double by Jerry Martin and single by Barry Foote. [The Sporting News]
