Bruce Kison hit the first grand-slam homer of his career and Bill Madlock collected four hits, including a two-run homer, to pace the Pirates to a 9-2 thumping of the Padres. Kison's clout climaxed a five-run outburst in the second inning and came after singles by Lee Lacy, Madlock, Rennie Stennett and Steve Nicosia. Madlock hit his round-tripper in the third.
