Three homers by Steve Kemp and one by Champ Summers powered the Tigers to a pair of victories over the Mariners, 4-3 in the 10-inning first game and 9-8 in the second contest. Kemp connected for his second homer of the opener leading off the 10th inning to break a 3-3 deadlock.

In the nightcap, Kemp tied the score at 8-8 with a two-run circuit clout in the seventh and Summers won the game one inning later with a pinch-homer. [The Sporting News]
