Homers by Joe Ferguson and Steve Garvey powered the Dodgers to a 4-1 decision over the Cardinals. The score was 1-1 when Ferguson connected for a leadoff circuit clout in the fourth inning. Garvey drilled a solo blast in the fifth. The final tally came in the seventh on singles by Mickey Hatcher and Davey Lopes around a stolen base.

Rick Sutcliffe gained his 12th victory, tying the Dodger record for a rookie pitcher. Bobby Castillo, in relief, loaded the bases with none out in the ninth, but fanned pinch-hitter Dane Iorg and Garry Templeton and retired Lou Brock on a fly. [The Sporting News]
