. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Jim Essian belted a three-run homer and Rob Picciolo went 4-for-4 and knocked in two runs to pace the A's to a 6-3 triumph over the Blue Jays. Essian's blast came in the fifth inning and gave the A's a 3-1 lead, but the Jays tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a two-run inside-the-park homer by Alfredo Griffin, his first major league round-tripper.

Jeff Newman drew a two-out walk in the sixth and came around on singles by Wayne Gross and Picciolo. The A's added a pair of eighth-inning runs on run-scoring singles by Picciolo and Rickey Henderson. [The Sporting News]
