A four-hitter by John Candelaria carried the Pirates to a 4-1 triumph over the Dodgers. The Pirates scored a pair of unearned runs in the second after Dodger second baseman Davey Lopes bobbled Ed Ott's grounder with Bill Madlock on first base.

After stealing third, Madlock scored when Phil Garner forced Ott at second. A single by Candelaria advanced Garner to third and he came home on a single by Omar Moreno. Willie Stargell connected for a two-run homer in the fifth after a single by Dave Parker. [The Sporting News]
