Piling up 19 hits, the Royals thrashed the Brewers, 18-8. Darrell Porter doubled home two runs and Clint Hurdle tripled home two others in the first inning. Pete LaCock connected for a three-run homer in the third frame and Amos Otis and George Brett cracked consecutive round-trippers in the fourth. The Brewers' Gorman Thomas clouted a pair of two-run homers and Sixto Lezcano and Don Money added solo shots.

The Brewers used three regular players as pitchers after Jim Slaton, Reggie Cleveland and Paul Mitchell were kayoed. Third baseman Sal Bando pitched three innings, allowing three hits and two runs.
