Ron Guidry, getting ninth-inning relief help from Rich Gossage, received credit for his eighth straight victory as the Yankees downed the Rangers, 7-5. The Yankees exploded for five runs in the second inning, first three coming home on a homer by George Scott. Bucky Dent followed Scott's blast with a triple and scored the go-ahead run on a grounder by Fred Stanley. A single by Brad Gulden and double by Willie Randolph closed out the inning.
