. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Don Sutton moved ahead of Christy Mathewson into 14th place on the all-time list of strikeouts when the Dodgers' righthander fanned seven, bringing his career total to 2,511, in a 5-4 victory over the Cubs. Sutton got off with a shaky start, giving up three runs in the first inning, but the Dodgers came back with a matching trio in the second.

Steve Garvey broke the tie in the fifth. Davey Lopes walked, Bill Russell singled and both scored on a double by Garvey. Dave Kingman hit his 42nd homer for the Cubs in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
