The Twins used four of their 10 hits off Jim Palmer to defeat the Orioles, 3-2. The Orioles scored first on singles by Pat Kelly and Billy Smith around a stolen base in the second inning before the Twins nicked Palmer for two runs in the fifth on doubles by Hosken Powell and Danny Goodwin and single by Butch Wynegar. Dave Edwards then led off the seventh with a homer for what proved to be the Twins' deciding run.

The Orioles had a homer by Doug DeCinces in their half for their sixth hit off Paul Hartzell. Mike Marshall pitched the last two innings and gave up two more hits but prevented further scoring and picked up his 29th save of the season. [The Sporting News]
