The A's, who were helped by two errors, scored three runs in the 10th inning and defeated the Tigers, 6-3. Wayne Gross and Dave Revering homered for the A's, while the Tigers had a two-run smash by Alan Trammell to tie the score at 3-3 in the eighth.

Dave Chalk opened the A's 10th with a single and gave way to pinch-runner Mike Edwards. Rob Picciolo sacrificed Edwards to second and reached first himself when his bunt was mishandled by Tiger reliever Aurelio Lopez. Rickey Henderson singled, scoring Edwards and sending Picciolo to third. Henderson then stole second and when Tiger catcher Lance Parrish made a wild throw, both Picciolo and Henderson scored on the error. [The Sporting News]
