The slugging of Willie Stargell and Dale Berra in the first game and the hitting of Lee Lacy behind the pitching of Jim Bibby in the second game carried the Pirates to a sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Giants, 5-3 and 7-2. Stargell hit two solo homers in the opener and Berra accounted for two other runs with a homer and sacrifice fly. An error by Phil Garner enabled the Giants to score three unearned runs off Bruce Kison in the first inning before the Pirates' bats swung into action.

Bibby tossed a five-hitter in the nightcap. The Pirates started their scoring in the fourth inning with a single by Bill Madlock, a stolen base and a double by Manny Sanguillen. Singles by Lacy and Bill Robinson, an infield out by Madlock and error by Darrell Evans added two runs in the sixth.
