Bob Forsch, winning for the fifth time in his last six decisions, pitched the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory over the Padres, completing a sweep of the three-game series. The Padres scored their run in the second inning on a single by Bill Fahey, double by Kurt Bevacqua and sacrifice fly by Dan Briggs.

Ted Simmons tied the score with a homer in the sixth. Mark Lee replaced Bob Owchinko in the ninth and was the loser when Tony Scott doubled, Ken Reitz sacrificed and Ken Oberkfell hit a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
