A three-run rally in the seventh inning carried the Angels to a 9-8 triumph over the White Sox. The Pale Hose led, 7-6, going into the bottom of seventh, but the Angels tallied three times after two were out.

Brian Downing beat out an infield hit and Bobby Grich walked. Downing scored the tying run when second baseman Jim Morrison was unable to handle a grounder by Larry Harlow. The runners advanced on the throw to the plate and after Rick Miller walked to load the bases, pinch-hitter Merv Rettenmund stroked a two-out single. [The Sporting News]
