A six-run explosion in the ninth inning gave the Tigers a 9-3 victory over the Indians. Alan Trammell led off the Tigers' outburst with a walk and came home on a triple by Ron LeFlore. After a walk to Al Greene, a single by Steve Kemp scored LeFlore. The runners advanced on a wild pickoff attempt.

Lynn Jones followed with a two-run single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jerry Morales. A double by Lance Parrish and single by Aurelio Rodriguez completed the scoring. [The Sporting News]
