A wild pickoff attempt handed the Pirates a 7-5 triumph over the Cardinals in 11 innings. The Pirates loaded the bases on a double by Omar Moreno, intentional walk to Dave Parker and infield single by Bill Robinson. With two out, Darold Knowles relieved Roy Thomas on the mound for the Cardinals and promptly uncorked a wild pickoff throw past first base into right field, enabling Moreno and Parker to score.
