The Yankees pushed across two runs in the 10th inning to subdue the Tigers, 3-1. Bucky Dent singled to start the rally and raced to third on Bobby Murcer's double. Willie Randolph beat out a bunt single, scoring Dent with the tie-breaking run.

Reliever Tom Underwood walked Oscar Gamble to fill the bases, then threw a wild pitch that brought home Murcer. Reggie Jackson homered for the Yanks in the fifth inning. [The Sporting News]
