Garry Maddox drove in two runs with a single in the first inning and sacrifice fly in the third to enable the Phillies to beat the Mets, 2-1, in the second game of a twi-night doubleheader behind the four-hit pitching of Randy Lerch and relievers Ron Reed and Rawly Eastwick.

A two-run eighth inning, when Joel Youngblood and Ed Kranepool delivered run-scoring hits, proved decisive in the Mets' 5-3 victory in the opener. Doug Flynn hit a two-run homer in the seventh. Gary Maddox homered in eighth. [The Sporting News]
