A two-run error by Phil Garner marked a three-run fourth inning that carried the Cardinals to an 8-6 triumph over the Pirates. Keith Hernandez singled and Ted Simmons was hit by a pitch to set the stage for Tony Scott's double, scoring Hernandez. When Garner booted Jerry Mumphrey's grounder, Simmons scored and Scott came on around as the second baseman made a belated attempt to nail Mumphrey at first base. [The Sporting News]
