. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Taking over after Bruce Robbins was injured by a line drive in the third inning, Jack Billingham turned in a superb relief performance and completed pitching the Tigers to a 6-0 shutout of the Yankees. The victory was Billingham's 10th, marking the 10th straight year that the veteran righthander had won 10 or more games. Lou Whitaker drove in two of the Tigers' runs with a homer and triple, while Ron LeFlore accounted for another pair with a double. [The Sporting News]
