A double by Barry Foote with one out in the ninth inning scored pinch-runner Miguel Dilone from first base and enabled the Cubs to their snap seven-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Phillies. Jerry Martin singled and gave way to Dilone before Foote delivered his winning hit. The RBI was the third of the game for Foote, who also drove in two runs with a double in the fourth inning.
