Tony Perez drove in three runs with a double and sacrifice fly and Bill Lee scattered nine hits in the Expos' 7-2 defeat of the Cardinals. After a fly by Perez started the scoring in the fourth, Lee himself started a four-run sixth inning that proved decisive.

The pitcher singled as did Dave Cash. One out later, Perez doubled both runners home. A single by Gary Carter scored Perez and Ellis Valentine capped the scoring with a double that plated Carter. Lee lost his shutout when Keith Hernandez, the league's leading hitter, led off the ninth frame with his 10th homer of the season. [The Sporting News]
