In a trade of shutouts, the A's won the first half of a doubleheader, 3-0, and the White Sox took the second portion, 7-0. Brian Kingman fired a four-hitter in the opener. The A's scored a run in the first inning on a single by Rickey Henderson, sacrifice by Dwayne Murphy and single by Jeff Newman. A pair of Chisox errors and a sacrifice fly by Mike Heath produced two additional runs in the eighth.

In the nightcap, Rich Dotson, making his second major league start, unfurled a six-hitter. The White Sox scored in the second on a double by Mike Colbern and twice in the third on a single by Claudell Washington and groundout by Harry Chappas.
