Although needing relief help, Frank Tanana picked up his first victory since June 5 as the Angels won their ninth game out of the last 10, downing the Brewers, 5-2. The Angels scored two runs in the first inning on a single by Rod Carew and doubles by Carney Lansford and Dan Ford.

Don Baylor knocked in his 125th run of the year with a single in the three-run fifth. Gorman Thomas drilled his 40th homer of the season for the Brewers in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
