Barry Foote went 4-for-5, including a grand-slam homer, to pace the Cubs to a 15-2 rout of the Phillies. Foote's blast came in the fourth inning and followed an intentional walk to Steve Ontiveros. The Cubs reached their season high of 22 hits. In addition to Foote, Larry Biittner had four hits, plus three RBIs. Mike Vail smashed a two-run homer.
