The Twins and Royals divided a doubleheader, the Royals winning the first game, 6-5, in 14 innings, and the Twins capturing the nightcap, 5-2. The lidlifter was tied, 5-5, going into the 14th, when Hal McRae belted a one-out homer to produce the winning run. Dan Quisenberry pitched brilliantly in relief for the Royals, getting out of a bases-loaded, none-out situation in the 13th frame.

Homers by Ron Jackson and Roy Smalley paced the Twins to victory in the second game. Jackson drilled a solo round-tripper in the fourth inning and Smalley connected for a two-run shot in the sixth stanza to give the Twins a 3-2 lead. After Smalley's blast, the Twins picked up two more runs in the same inning on consecutive singles by Jose Morales, Dave Edwards and Ken Landreaux. [The Sporting News]
