A four-run rally in the eighth inning lifted the Yankees to an 8-3 triumph over the Red Sox. With the Red Sox ahead, 3-2, Bobby Murcer led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by Lou Piniella. After a double by Reggie Jackson scored Murcer, Chris Chambliss was hit by a pitch.

Graig Nettles hit a grounder to Carl Yastrzemski and when the first baseman threw wildly to the plate in a futile effort to get Piniella, Jackson also scored from second. The final run of the inning counted on a grounder by Jerry Narron. [The Sporting News]
