Backed by the Yankees' 16-hit attack, Ron Guidry breezed to a 10-3 triumph over the Red Sox. The victory was the 17th of the season and 11th in succession for the lefthander, who allowed nine hits and had 11 strikeouts.

An error by Jim Dwyer opened the door for the Yankees in their five-run fourth. The big blow was a two-run triple by Willie Randolph. Both Randolph and Oscar Gamble had four hits in five trips. [The Sporting News]
