Dale Murphy smashed two homers, a triple and two singles in a 5-for-5 night to lead the Braves to a 10-7 victory over the Padres. Murphy homered for the first time in the second inning. With the score tied, 5-5, in the seventh, Bob Horner singled and Murphy tripled. Mike Lum hit a pinch-single to drive in Murphy and later scored himself on a pinch-single by Biff Pocoroba.

Horner and Murphy hit successive homers in the ninth to ice the decision. The Padres almost matched the Braves' 16-hit total, rapping 15, but all were singles. [The Sporting News]
