A sacrifice fly by Rod Carew scored Bobby Grich in the ninth inning and gave the Angels an 8-7 victory over the Brewers in a game marked by a fight that resulted in the banishment of two players. In the seventh, Dan Ford went to bat for the Angels and tangled with Lary Sorensen after being decked twice by the Brewers' pitcher. Both combatants were ejected.

The Angels jumped on reliever Bob Galasso for three runs in the eighth to take a 7-3 lead, but the Brewers rallied to tie the score in their half. Grich led off the ninth with a single, took second on a sacrifice by Rick Miller and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Bill Castro before scoring on Carew's long fly to center field. Dave LaRoche received credit for his seventh victory of the season although Don Aase came on to get the final two outs of the game and earn a save. [The Sporting News]
