. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Breaking up a scoreless game, Jerry Martin hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to give the Cubs a 2-0 victory over the Phillies. After Dickie Noles worked the first nine frames for the Phillies, Ron Reed took over and was greeted with a leadoff single by Larry Biittner. Steve Ontiveros struck out and Barry Foote grounded out before Martin crashed his homer.

Bruce Sutter, the fourth pitcher used by the Cubs, was the winner with two innings of hitless relief. Pete Rose, batting safely in his 11th straight game, collected three of the Phillies' seven hits. [The Sporting News]
