A grand-slam homer by Leon Roberts powered the Mariners to a 7-5 victory over the Royals. Willie Horton drove in a run for the Mariners with a single and Roberts added another with a double in the first inning. Then, in the third, Julio Cruz doubled and Ruppert Jones walked. After a sacrifice by Tom Paciorek, Larry Gura passed Horton intentionally to load the bases before falling victim to Roberts' slam. Horton singled and batted in the Mariners' last run in the seventh.
