A homer by Dale Murphy with two men on base capped a four-run getaway in the first inning as the Braves went on to defeat the Padres, 6-1. Singles by Eddie Miller and Jerry Royster around a balk by Juan Eichelberger produced the Braves' initial run. Gary Matthews followed with a single and Murphy then hit his homer.
