The Mariners exploded for five runs in the fourth inning and grabbed a 6-3 decision over the Royals. Consecutive singles by Leon Roberts, Willie Horton and Bill Stein produced the first run of the big inning and the second came in on a sacrifice fly by Bruce Bochte. Back-to-back singles by Bobby Valentine and Rodney Craig produced another tally and after a single by Larry Cox loaded the bases, Julio Cruz drilled a double to score two more runs.
